Trimble 29er
Bicycling | Science and TechnologyMy friend Scott who runs LSC Products, has a new bike. Back 'in the day' Trimble bikes blew peoples minds with their monocoque carbon fiber design and unique profile. The brand has been all but lost for many years, but Brent Trimble is making bikes again. Developments in materials technology means that the fundamental design can be made lighter and stronger than ever before. This is a head turning bike in more thatn one way. Cyclingnews.com recently reported that besides Orbea, this is the only monocoque 29 inch wheel MTB currently offered. I have ridden this beast and am pretty-much infatuated with it. It really is a fun and fast bike to ride--I want one!
This is my mountain bike
Bicycling | Liberty
This is
my mountian bike. There are many just like it, and this one is mine. As
an American, it is my absolute, unquestionable right to have this; it
is my birthright. I will go to any length necessary to ensure that this
bike remains in my hands, the hands of my countrymen, and to ensure
that the hands of our posterity may go freely to the most fearsome mountain bikes the future has to offer.
MacDonald Forest trails
Bicycling
MacDonald Forest is a state forest, managed by the OSU College of Forestry. Traditionally, forest users have enjoyed a great deal of recreational freedom. The official trail system is well kept, properly signed and had access points on all sides. The system trails such as Dan's, Horse, Extendo, Uproute and Alpha trails are all minimum 36 inch trail bed supplemented with gravel. While this makes them nice for winter access, mountain bike traction during summer months requires special attention. The other trails (which I have added to the map by hand) typically present expert-level challenges while they are certainly well suited to the recreational mountain biker seeking challenging terrain. If you do decide to explore them, please realize that their status (with respect to the Forest Management) is tenuous. Ride curteously, cautiously and refrain from riding them until they dry.
